Question:
My girl have a tattoo on her back and she wants to remove it. The only way
to remove that i know is by Laser. Here, in Brazil, the price of a laser
session starts at US$ 500,00. We are very scared with the prices and we
would like to know if another way exists to remove this tattoo, like a cream
or Tca or something?
Answer:
- This is a very interesting question. That $500, BTW, is, I think,
$500/ per SQUARE INCH. Which is outrageous, since it seems all they are
doing is pointing a pen light. Towards that end, if you could find out
the frequency of that laser, and its power output (definitely lo power),
you could probably kluge something from Edmund Scientific and... do it
yourself! And maybe go into business. Post on sci.optics.
Chemically, it is possible, but it's a longshot. You would need to
know the typical chemical structure of the dye, and find a (non-toxic)
chemical that would alter that structure, without affecting the skin.
Tough call. Post on sci.chem.
What the laser is doing, IIUC, is likely destroying the dye molecule
structure, not eliminating the chemical dye in the tattoo. The tattoo
is in fact still there, but it is now "clear" instead of colored.
- the old fashioned way. Make a paste of table salt & water. No the salt will
not disolve completely. Using a very fine and very clean sewing needle re-tat
the tatoo. Small area's at a time is all the patient may be able to stand.
Put the salt paste on the re-tated area, leave on for awhile. the salt brine
gets into the wound, when the scabe forms in the skin the ink will come off
