Question:
Tattoo Removal Methods For Teens..?
Answer:
- I have a problem, well it's not really MY problem, but it's a problem,
so I thought I'd let y'all contribute your thoughts. I teach in a middle
school, (7th and 8th grade), and most of my current and former students
know about my tattoos, so they ask me about it if they have a question about
ink and stuff. Anyway, one of my former students, a just-turned-14-year-old,
has this REAL fugly amateur tattoo that she got last summer. And I mean to
tell you it sucks. Well, predictably, she hates it. And her parents don't
know about it yet. How she's managed to keep it hidden for the last 10
months is beyond me. She has checked into removal, but of course it's much
too expensive for her. So now she wants to know what she can do.
MY position is that she needs to bite the bullet and tell her parents
about it, and let them have their cow and get it over with, and then maybe
they can help her do something about it. I know several kids her same age
with professional tattoos, so apparently this is legal here in Florida
with parental permission. While I wouldn't normally recommend this to ANY
child, THIS girl is in real serious need of a decent cover job. In the
mean time, some of her asshole friends have been giving her some very bad
advice, including "scrub it with sand paper and pour alcohol on it." Ouch.
So my question to YOU all, gentle readers, is, do you have anything to
add to my advice? Or do you think I'm wrong? What are your thoughts? I'll
be sure to pass your answers along to her.
- 1. You do not mention WHERE on her body it is. It's one thing to have
it on her upper arm, another if it's on her hand.
2. You do not mention how large it is. Is it very obvious?
3. You do not mention WHAT the tattoo is. Does it say "fuck you" or is
it just dog ugly?
4. Do you know what her parents are like at all? Are they fervernt
religious fanatics and utterly conservative, or are they somewhat
forgiving?
5. Has this girl been in trouble before? Is she labeled a "delinquent"
anywhere? What is her reputation? Will it be further damaged if she
keeps her tattoo? Can she keep it concealed for four years until she
can deal with it herself?
