Question:
REMOVAL of Tattoo- How Successful?
I've been trying to design a coverup for an old, poorly executed
tattoo for a while now, but unfortunately its shape, size and placement
make it very difficult to achieve a design I'm happy with.
My wife suggested getting it removed via these new lasers or whatever,
then getting another tattoo which I'm totally happy with and
unconstrained by the need to design a cover up.
Soooo, I had heard that you can hardly tell there was a tattoo there
when the process is finished (I have very light skin, if that matters),
but have also heard from someone else that I'll be left with lots of
little spots, almost like pepper, from the breakup of the ink, and it
will look pretty bad.
Anyone have any insights on this? It would be pointless to go through
the time and expense of removal if I just end up wanting to cover the
resulting mess up anyway.
Answer:
- I've seen many removals by laser. The answer is similar to a basic
tattoo question. It depends,,,, on inks used originally and the skill and
ability of the dermatologist. Look for referrals now , like you should have
done when you had it put on A md who does a lot of tattoo removal will
have a "before and after" book.
A good one will clean the skin down to fresh, or will stop earlier if it is
clean/light enough to work over witha fresh tattoo.
